LGBTQ+ Historic Context

The Department of City Planning, Historic Atlanta, the Mayor’s Office of LGBTQ Affairs, and others have partnered to identify, document, and preserve sites associated with Atlanta’s LGBTQ+ communities. This effort will result in what is being called a “Historic Context Statement.” This initiative will allow Atlanta to join other major cities such as Los Angeles, DC, and San Francisco in documenting LGBTQ+ history.

As we know that many of the gay BIPOC aren’t always represented in our city's history, we invite you to share information on the LGBTQ+ grant/Historic Context Statement on your social media channels to help us identify Black spaces and places that were important to the gay communities.
